about

The Anagram String Trio is James Ilgenfritz (bass), Meaghan Burke (cello) and Stephanie Griffin (viola). They have worked as a trio with M Lamar, Hunter Hunt-Hendrix, and Petr Kotik, as well as performing their own works for trio. The four works on this album represent experimentalism from the last seventy years, with works from the 1960s, 1970s, 2010s, and 2020s. This includes works by California-based experimental improviser/composers Wilfrido Terrazas and Niloufar Shiri, as well as two pillars of African American postwar experimentalism: Composer Alvin Singleton, and founding Fluxus artist Benjamin Patterson. This project, was supported by Issue Project Room and Oda, and was recorded by Bob Bellerue and Jade Guterman at Figure 8 Recording.

Conceptually we support music that treats the AACM, MEV, Sonic Arts Union, No Wave, the New York School, and Vision / Arts For Art as antecedents to one emerging post-millennial genre. ... more
